Su función principal es entregar el lodo de perforación a la broca mientras trabaja en conjunto con el BHA para elevar, bajar o girar el conjunto de perforación. La tubería de perforación debe soportar presiones internas y externas significativas, estrés torsional, fuerzas de flexión y vibraciones durante la operación.
